October is of course one of my favorite months. A time for all the things I love, horror, strangeness and of course, GORE.

So throughout this month, I want to bring the gross and give you tips and trick on how to make your SFX wounds look the best they can be.

And if you want to share with me your gorgeous, bloody creations, then use the hashtag #goretober and tag me @bethanybeatssmith.

So, without further a do...

This is an infected spider bite.

Created as a flat mold, made using encapsulated silicone. But a lot of the yellow, puss filled areas and the peeling skin were made by using eyelash glue and water based paint. This is a prime example that you do not have to use expensive products to get your desired effect. In fact, on Follow the Crows, I filled a wound with salad cream which the actor Marc Starr squeezed out for a lovely, puss effect. I must admit, I was grinning with sheer glee as everyone in the cinema cringed and wretched at the sight of it.

So don't fret if you cant afford the expensive products, get creative, use safe food products, mix stuff up and see what happens. You might create something no one thought of and now you have a little makeup secret all to yourself!
